As she was reading a magazine, when a guy approached her.
“Hi miss, is this seat taken?”
“Sure.” She replied without looking at the guy because she was so pissed.
“Leni, I’m Migo, from high school. Remember?”
Once again, she saw the person whom that didn’t ask her to dance.
“Hi , kumusta ka na? what are you doing here?”
“I’m taking a vacation with my family for three days, were staying at the hotel nearby”
“Me too, I’m actually staying with my aunt. It’s just a few blocks away from here.”
“This is our first time to be here, would you recommend some tourists spots we could visit.”
“Well, I haven’t toured the whole town. If you want, I could refer you to my friends who live here.”
“Thanks. Can I visit you to your aunt’s house tomorrow?”
“Sure. But, it would be better if you could visit us to the church because were rehearsing for production for the upcoming fiesta. I would like you to meet them.”
“Ok, I will drop by the church tomorrow.”
They began to catch up on each other’s lives. Leni felt happy to see the guy that he used to like in high school. They were having a good time when she received a message from her aunt, asking her to go back to the house to do finish the household chores.
“By the way Migo, I have to go. It’s nice to see you again.” She said as she left the place.
---
After having dinner, Leni washed the dishes when the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it.” Her aunt said.
Aldo talked to Juana with what happened.
“Tita, where’s Leni? I actually came here to apologize.”
“She’s washing the dishes. Wait, I’ll do that, so the two of you could talk.”
Leni called her to the living room. When she saw Aldo, she gave her a dagger look, went straight to her room, and slammed the door. Her aunt followed her afterwards.
“Leni, wag kang bastos! Yung tao na nga yung nagpa-kumbaba na pumunta dito. Lumabas ka diyan.”
“Opo.” She said as she stepped out of her room.
“Leni, I’m really sorry with what I said earlier. Alam ko na-pikon ka.”
“Mabuti alam mo.”
“I’m really sorry, I didn’t know. Ngayon naintindihan ko na. Ang sa akin lang, binibiro lang kita. Wala naman akong masamang intensyon.”
“Mabuti naman at na-gets mo na agad na sensitive ako pagdating sa break-up namin ng ex ko. ”
“Leni, there’s just one thing that I’ll ask from you.”
Wag kang mawawala.”
---
After the rehearsals, Leni stayed outside the church when she received a message from Migo that he would pick her up.
A few minutes later, Dana, Aldo, and Mong approached her.
“Leni, were going to have merienda at one of the restaurants at Calle Crisologo, would you like to join us?” Dana asked.
“No thanks, I have to meet a former class mate from high school who’s having a vacation here.”
Mong began to tease her.
“Uuuy, may date siya.”
“Mong, baka mapikon si Leni.”
“No, that’s okay. We’ll just have merienda and visit some places here.”
Migo arrived shortly and Leni introduced them to him.
---
They went to the café where they met the day before.
“Sayang, you won’t have a chance to watch our play.”
“Oo nga eh. How I wish, I could stay longer. Nakakbitin nga eh. I can’t do anything about it because I have to prepare myself for law school.”
“Wow, that’s great! You’re lucky because you still have a chance to study again. I, on the other hand won’t have that chance because I have to earn already.”
“Actually, I’m not really sure if Law School is really for me. My parents want me to take it because they want me to follow the footsteps of my grandfather. According to them, I’m like him daw.”
“Well, it seems that your family believes in you so much. I think that you have what it takes to become a lawyer. You’re highly opinionated, strong willed, and witty. Remember when we won the debating competition in high school?”
“Yes, I remember that. Well, without your research, we might have lost.”
“It’s not just my research, it’s a group effort.”
“By the way, what did you took up in college?”
“Communication Arts.”
“Really? I really wanted to take that up, but my Dad suggested that I should take up Political Science so that I could prepare for law school. And, I did.”
After having coffee, they toured around the town. They visited the museums, specialty stores, and rode a calesa.
Migo walked Leni to her aunt’s house.
“Leni, I had a great time.”
“Me too.”
The two was silent for a while. Leni can’t explain how she really felt at that moment that she was with the guy that didn’t ask him to dance on their prom. To break the ice,
Migo started the conversation.
“Leni, do you remember our prom?”
“Yes, I still can’t forget how it sucked.”
“Why?”
“You didn’t asked me to dance.”
“There’s something that I really wanted to tell you. I felt guilty when I saw you sitting at the corner all by yourself. I really wanted to ask you to dance, but….”
“I’m afraid that you might turn me down. I’m sorry that I didn’t have the guts to ask you.”
“That’s ok. Past is past.”
When Migo tried to reach for her hand, Leni stared at her bracelet from Red.
“I’m sorry Migo. Can I get my hand back?”
“Why?”
“I haven’t gotten over my ex. I miss him.”
“I’m sorry to hear that Leni. But, I hope that we would still keep in touch.”
“Oo naman, we’re friends. Di ba?”
After that conversation, Migo left and went back to the hotel.
