Chapter One:Part Seven

Graduation came, they have thirty minutes to assemble. Leni saw the girl that she assumed that Red is dating. She took this chance to take her sweet revenge.
The girl went inside the Ladies’ room and Leni followed her afterwards. She waited for the girl to get inside the cubicle leaving her purse on the edge of the sink. When no one was there, she entered and took the kit outside with her and poured coke inside it. Returned it to the sink and went back to the lobby.
A few minutes later, the girl stepped out wondering what happened to her purse.
“Mabuti na lang at walang nakakita sa’yo.Kung hindi, lagot ka. Malaking gulo yan.”
Faith said.
“Basta, naiinis ako at hindi ko na talaga mapigilan.” Leni muttered.
“That’s what repressed emotions can do. You’re bound to do stupid things Leni. But if I were you, I would tell your ex straight to his face how jerk he was. Anyway, it’s about time to move on. You’ll learn to forget him soon. Trust me.” Adam said.

Leni just nodded her head.

After the ceremony, Red tried to approach her but she avoided him. Leni felt guilty with what she did earlier.

Chapter One:Part Six

Leni channeled all her energy in her thesis. As the defense was fast approaching, she would stay up late making revisions. Most of the time, she would sleep around 3 am even if her class would be at 7 am.
“Anak, it’s late. Can you do that tomorrow?” Her mom asked.
“I can’t, I’m going to have my defense already.” She said as she typed the last two sentences in her computer screen. Her mom knew that her daughter is just repressing her emotions. She grew bitter against her Dad and she feared that it would also happen to Red.

The defense was finally over. Leni, Adam, and Faith decided to go at the nearby mall to unwind and to shop for their graduation outfits. It was Leni’s turn to buy her dress.
The three of them had been to seven botiques already but Leni, still can’t decide what she really wanted. Not until she was stopped by this boutique.

“Ate Agatha used to buy dresses here.” Leni said as memories flashed back when she and her aunt would patiently wait for her cousin as she fit the clothes.
Faith waved her hand in front of Leni’s face. “ Leni, are you still with us? Tara, let’s get inside. We’re tired already.”
Leni tried six different pieces and none of them suited her.
“ I give up. I would just find something at home and re-construct it.” She said with exhaustion.
Adam hurriedly handed Leni a turquoise dress that they saw in the magazine a few weeks ago.
”Wait, here’s another one. I’m sure bagay sa’yo. This is your favorite color, right?”
Leni tried on the dress and it fitted her. Afterwards, she purchased the dress.

“Leni, pinagod mo kami dun ha, kaya manli-libre ka ngayon.” Faith joked.
“Pasalamat kayo, kaka-padala pa lang ng Dad ko ng allowance.Kung hindi, sorry kayo.”

Then, they went to a newly opened pizza chain.
“Finally, it’s over.” Adam cheered as he raised his glass of root beer. “I’ll drink to that.” Leni replied. “Feeling niyo naman beer yang hawak niyo” Faith said with a laugh.
They were having a great time until Leni imperceptibly asked Adam.
“Adam, are you gay?”
Adam raised his eyebrows and answered back “Uy, hindi ah! Bakit mo naman naisip ‘yon?”
“Well, when we were looking for my dress. I’m just wondering, how did you know that the dress would fit me perfectly? Most guys doesn’t know about anything about fashion.”
“My grandmother used to make gowns for affluent families. At a young age, I was already exposed with dressmaking. But, that doesn’t mean I’m gay. In fact, I really had feelings for this person since first year. She’s our classmate by the way. I just don’t have the courage to tell her that.”
“Why don’t you tell her? You might regret it if you don’t. After graduation, kanya-kanya na tayo.”Leni said.
He stood silent for a while before answering her question.
“Sa graduation na lang siguro… Ubusin na natin yung pizza bago lumamig.” He replied as he grabbed another slice.

Leni and Faith wondered who that person was, but they didn’t ask him.

Chapter One:Part Five

Leni locked herself inside her room for entire Christmas vacation. Except on Noche Buena and New Year’s Eve.

“Anak, naghihintay sa’yo ang pagkain!”
Leni got up from bed and washed her face. She stared in front of the mirror and felt that she saw a trash. She noticed the dark circles under her eyes and her hair that has been unruly that resulted from the sleepless nights that she had.

Leni went to the dining room.
“Ate, mabuti naisipan mo ring lumabas ng kwarto mo. Akala ko kasi, may balak kang maging ermitanyo eh.” His brother Gino, commented.
“Leni, is there something wrong?”
“No, I’m fine. I’m probably stressed out from my thesis.” Of course, she just made an alibi. But, the truth is that she spent days crying over Red.
“Anak, It’s Christmas, don’t think about it muna. Teka, why don’t you invite Red on Medya Noche?
“Uhm…He’s out of the country… Gino, please pass the rice.” She said without looking at them.
Leni pretended that everything was okay, but her mother knows she’s not.

She never mentioned about the break-up her family. It’s difficult for her to disclose what happened because the more that she talked about it, the more that the pain lingered.

---

Classes resumed and Leni pretended that as if nothing happened.
“Leni, did you join ‘Ambush Makeover’?” Adam asked
“Oo nga, what’s with your new look?” Faith added
“ I have to do this because I don’t want to look pathetic or should I say affected by the break-up. Bakit, pangit ba?”
“Hindi naman, nanibago lang kami.”
When she was asked about the what happened, she would joke about it. “We’re just friends”, she would always say.

She may laugh about it, but she’s really hurting inside. Whenever she and Red would cross paths, Leni would smile at him. But after that, she would hide somewhere, and cry.

School work piled up and so was her emotions. There came to a point that she can’t hide it anymore. After their final exams, she went straight to Faith’s house with Adam. They were watching TV when Leni told them what Red said to her. She cried as she told the whole story. “Guys, it’s difficult for me to deal with this. I know it’s stupid but this is my first time to fell in love with someone and it’s not easy for me to recover with what happened. Ngayon lang ako ulit nasaktan ng ganito. The last time was when my Dad
left us. I was eight then and I can vividly recall what happened. Ayoko ng iniiwan ako.”
“Ang drama mo naman, hindi naman namin gagawin yun sa iyo. Ayaw naming mawalan ng taga-basa ng horoscope at showbiz update. Joke lang! ” Faith said.
“Ang sabi nga ni Kuya Germs, walang iwanan, di ba?” Adam added as the three of them laughed.

“Imbento ka naman eh, walang tulugan kaya yun.” Faith replied as she nudged him.
“Nag-eemote lang ako, may taping kasi ako bukas eh. Basta promise yan ah.” Leni said jokingly.
“O tama na yan nagiging corny na,mag- isaw na tayo. My treat.” Adam said as they walked towards the stall across their campus.
Then, Adam started to talk. “Yan ang gusto namin sa’yo. Magaling kang mag-dala ng problema. Honestly, we really liked you for being real. When you’re with Red,you’re trying to be someone that he liked. But, when you’re with us, you’re just you. Di ka na nagpa-pasikat . Yun nga lang, may ka-baduyan ka minsan. Pero ok lang un.”
